IoT An Overview: Advantages, MQTT, Use Case

Today’s tech industry is one of the major sectors which has a bright future, that is filled with several innovations and advanced technology.

IoT is one of them, there are many use cases of IoT, It makes things easier and easy to use through technology. It converts a simple device into a smart device.

For instance, Let’s say you have a simple watch, after enabling IoT technology it becomes a smart watch that measures your real-time metrics like heart rate, pulse rate, etc, the data will be exchanged through sensors to your mobile app, and you can also monitor all the metrics in the real-time.

Now, let’s begin this article with the meaning of IoT.

What is meant by IoT?

IoT is a physical object embedded with sensors and other technology. For the purpose of building connections and exchanging data.

It works on a sensor-based. IoT device sends the data to the other device without human interference.

For instance, Let’s say your home is covered with a camera and you want to see the live footage, so sending access or giving a command will show you the live footage of your home by seating anywhere anytime.

Why IoT will be successful in the upcoming years?

IoT makes use of devices easier smartly, with low cost & effective management of entitles. The use of IoT is increasing day by day in every sector including healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and many more. This has proven that IoT has a bright future in the upcoming years

In 2021, “the internet of things market was estimated to be worth USD 384.70 billion. The market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 39% from 2017 to 2025, rising from USD 110 billion in USD to USD 1,600 billion in USD”.

What are the advantages?

There are many advantages of IoT. Once, it is implemented into a device.

Explore the advantages of IoT:

  • Better use of resources
  • Make things smart and comfortable to use
  • Easy to access
  • Time-saving
  • Provides real-time data
  • Advanced analytics and storage of data
  •  Cost-effectiveness
  • Improve user experience
  • It reduces human efforts

What is MQTT?

MQTT is a protocol that is based on publish and subscribe that is introduced by IBM.

In simple words, MQTT is a broker between two devices that transfers data by identifying the publisher and subscriber.

For instance, let’s say you have a temperature device that measures temperature and is enabled with an IoT sensor, now when you will pass a command to show the data you will become the subscriber and the temperature device is a publisher that shows the data.

Now, what does MQTT do? It will identify the publisher and subscriber and pass the data to the end devices. It’s a broker between two devices, that helps to transfer data.

What are the use cases of IoT?

IoT is mainly used in manufacturing units to track goods records and stock records. However, it has also found use cases for organizations like agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and the home automation industry.

Let’s explore the use case of the Internet of things with a few examples.

#1 Use of IoT in home automation:

Today home automation is the trending use case of IoT, it makes simple home appliances into smart home appliances.

People use IoT-based build appliances in their homes or either convert their appliances into smart appliances by enabling IoT systems.

The most home appliance works in an automated mode.

Some of the smart devices that are used in home automation include:

  • Smart switches
  • Smart lock
  • Natural language-based voice assistant devices
  • Smart light
  • Home air quality and water quality monitoring devices
  • Home safety and security devices

#2 Use of IoT in the healthcare sector:

The implementation of IoT in healthcare brings massive change to the healthcare ecosystem. Since the inception of technology in healthcare.

It has updated the version of the healthcare ecosystem, Which has many new features enabled, and healthcare IoT devices are the key that has unlocked those features.

Let’s understand by taking a quick example.

Glucose meter:

As per the report, over 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Patients face issues in regular care as it is a chronic disease that steles for the long term in the human body.

So taking regular care is necessary which includes monitoring the symptoms of patients.  As a result, the glucose meter helps patients monitor real-time symptoms in their bodies.

How do glucose meters help patients?

  • Monitores glucose levels in real-time
  • Alerts when glucose levels are problematic
  • Uses less blood for testing and gives fast results in just 5 seconds.
  • It provides real-time data that can be shared with doctors
  • Measuring regularly helps patients to know what makes their number ups or down such as eating unhealthy food, taking medicine, or being physically active.

#3 Use of IoT in manufacturing:

Earlier, major things in the manufacturing process are done by manpower which is a manual process that includes managing production, packaging the product, or handling the stock management.

This slowdown the whole manufacturing process. But, the entry of IoT systems into the manufacturing industry has opened the doors of automation in the manufacturing process. It becomes easy for manufacturers to speed up the production process.

How does it help?

  • Helps to manage stock inventory
  • Reduce time of production processes
  • Saves money
  • Reduces labor force
  • Effectively helps in handling machine managing

Final words

The inception of IoT in every sector has solved the puzzle of Time-saving and making automation easy. The Internet of things has become the pioneer of automation in every sector. However, this will go on and on.
